California Healthy Kids Survey
The California Department of Education requires all school districts to administer the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) at least once every two years. This fall the Sonoma Valley Unified School District is scheduled to administer this youth self-reporting survey to grades 5, 7, 9, and 11. Results of this anonymous survey allow the school district to target interventions for students that relate to a healthy lifestyle and tackling such problems as drug abuse and violence.
This is a voluntary, anonymous survey that reports tendencies, but not individual student results. You may examine the questionnaire at the Healthy Kids Website (www.wested.org/khs ) or in your school's main office.
The district plans on administering the survey in late fall. Many parents indicated on their emergency cards that their students had permission to take this survey. Should you wish to review your permission, please contact your site's office. Should you wish further information, please contact Susan Christensen, the Director of Student Services, at (707) 935-6004.
Results from this survey will be presented at a governing board meeting in early spring.

The Governing Board recognizes the link between student health and learning and desires to provide a comprehensive program promoting healthy eating and physical activity for District students.
With this in mind, the Sonoma Nutrition and Physical Activity Advisory Council (SNAC) was formed. The role of SNAC shall be to act as the liaison between Food Services and school sites and shall work toward implementing the Wellness Policy at the site level.
This group is made up of teachers, principals, staff, administrators, parents, community members and Board.
The mission of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District's Wellness Policy is to foster the overall health of the School District community by creating a variety of educational opportunities to establish life-long healthy eating habits and physical activity.
