Accountability Progress Reporting (APR)
August 31, 2006
We are very excited about the gains we’ve made both at a district-wide level and at individual sites. We’re pleased that we’ve met 23 of 26 criteria district-wide. The data shows that we need to continue to address student achievement in the following three subgroups: Hispanic / Latino, Socioeconomically Disadvantaged and Students with Disabilities.
With the exception of these three subgroups and our students in the elementary Dual Immersion Program, all other significant subgroups have exceeded the statewide performance target of 800.
Significant areas of success include:
Flowery had an increase of over 50 points on their Academic Performance Index (API)
Sonoma Valley High School has moved out of Program Improvement
Prestwood and Dunbar continue to meet all of their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) criteria
Sassarini School met and exceeded all state and federal criteria (API and AYP)
El Verano and Altimira met all of their AYP criteria in mathematics
Adele Harrison had an increase of over 30 points for the last two years on the API
Based on the federal No Child Left Behind guidelines, the district as a whole and 4 individual schools are in program improvement. Our strategic plan and the work we’re committed to doing will keep us focused on achievement for all students.
The District will continue its commitment to be an inquiry-based district, constantly reviewing data and adjusting practices to best meet the needs of our students.
The information contained in the individual 2003-2004 School Accountability Report Cards (S.A.R.C.), the Academic Performance Index (A.P.I.), District and School SAT-9 Test results, Golden State Examinations (G.S.E.) results, Scholastic Aptitude Test (S.A.T.) results, Advanced Placement Test (A.P.) results, the California Safe Schools Assessment Report, and the District Crime Report provide the community and other interested individuals with quantifiable data that reflect the academic performance and safety of Sonoma Valley Unified School District students. It is acknowledged that statistical data, in and of itself, is not the only measure of student achievement and school culture; these are merely some of the tools utilized by educators to evaluate student performance and to improve programs and services for students.
After you have reviewed these reports, you're invited to contact your local school's principal to obtain more detailed information. The Sonoma Valley Unified School District actively solicits partnerships with parents and the community. Your local school's principal will be happy to share with you the many ways that you can help the school district in its quest to provide Quality Education in the Valley of the Moon.
