Printer Installation for Adele Harrison

(Including Summer School at Adele Harrison)

 

Purpose:  This guide will help the users at Adele Harrison Middle School install the Sharp MX-M850 copy machine (located in the copy room) on their MacBook.

 

Applies to: Mac OS 10.5.x

 

Before you begin:

  1. Connect to the network.
    1. You can plug into the network with a network cable or connect via the wireless network in the staff room

 

  1. CLICK HERE to download the latest drivers for the Sharp MX-M850 copier

 

 

    1. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click the I agree box and click Download File
    2. You will be prompted to Open the file with Stuffit Expander or Save the File.  Make sure that Open is selected and click OK
    3. The Downloads Folder should open and you should see a folder named Hercules-1002-OSX10.5.  Open that folder.
    4. You will see a file named Hercules-1002-OSX10.5.dmg.  Double click the file and the mounted drive MX-B03 should appear
    5. Double click the file MX-B03 (the icon will be an open brown box with a yellow cube coming out of it).  This will launch the installer for MX-B03
    6. Click continue, click continue again, and agree to the license agreement.
    7. You should see the Macintosh HD icon.  Click on it one time to select it (There will be a circle around the drive and a green arrow pointing down) and click on Continue.
    8. Click on Install (You may be prompted to enter your user name and password to continue.  Please enter them and click OK)
    9. Once the drivers are installed, you will see a green check and the words Install Succeeded.  Click on the Close button and the drivers are installed.

 

Printer Installation:

 

Launch the Add Printer Wizard

  1. Go to the System Preferences…

·        Either launch the System Preferences from the icon in the tray

·        OR go to the Apple Menu and select System Preferences

  1. Select Print & Fax
  2. Click on the ‘+’ on the left side to begin the Add Printer wizard

There are 2 ways to add a printer, either by name or by IP address.  Both methods are covered below.  It is assumed that you are in the add printer wizard from the above steps.

 

Add a Printer by name

  1. Select the printer named RDV04F27A from the list of printers on the screen
  2. You can change some information about the printer on this screen if you choose

·        You can change the Name and Location Fields below the list of printers to a more descriptive name (for example the name could be Adele Copier and the location could be Adele Harrison).  These values are to help you identify the printer, so set them accordingly.

  1. Select the correct print driver in the Print Using: dropdown

Ř      If you don’t see SHARP MX-M850 PPD, you may not have installed the print drivers correctly above.  Refer to the instructions above and reinstall the drivers.

  1. Click the Add button. 
  2. Click Continue on the Installable options screen
  3. The printer should show up on your list of available printers.

 

Add a Printer by IP Address

  1. Select the IP button from the top of the screen
  2. Enter the IP Address 10.205.16.20 in the Address field. (4 numbers with periods between them)
  3. Check below the address box for “Valid and complete address.”
  4. Leave the Queue blank for the default queue
  5. You can change the name and location fields
  6. Check for the correct print driver in the Print Using: dropdown
  7. Select the correct print driver in the Print Using: dropdown

Ř      If you don’t see SHARP MX-M850 PPD, you may not have installed the print drivers correctly above.  Refer to the instructions above and reinstall the drivers.

  1. Click the Add button.  The printer should show up on your list of available printers.

 

Print a test page to check connectivity.
